During the initial formation, a group of contractors came together with the main idea of getting contractors of the same trade, to cooperate and compete fairly and reasonably especially during the tendering of projects. At that time, Mr Tan Eao Teck who was then the Manager of M/s Tan Cheng Moh Electrical Co. Pte Ltd, a wholesaler of electrical equipment and components, was asked to gather all interested contractors to join and form this Association.
As such the pioneer members are Mr Chua Kim Tee of Chua Electric, Mr Wong of Seng Heng Electric, Mr Tay of Chuan Hin Electric, Mr Ng Hong Choon of Johore Associated, Mr Lim Keng Chay, Encik Hussin Junit, Encik Ali Mohd and Mr Chan Keng Han and some other Malay contractors. (Note, any individual name left out is unintentional). From then on, the Association’s meetings were held in some members’ office, community halls, then at rented premises at various parts in Johor Bahru.
Then in year 1978, the Association’s meetings started off at the Building of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce at No. 42 Jalan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru. And in the same year, the Association’s name was change to Johor Bahru Electrical & Electronics Association (JBEEA) or Persatuan Elektrik Dan Elektroniks Johor Bahru. This is to reflect the new era of technological advancement and to allow wider membership enrolment from both the electrical and electronics field of business. JBEEA is also affiliated to The Electrical & Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM), who has its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
As the membership grows, the need for having its own premise became a necessity. In the early 90’s JBEEA proceeded with the idea and found a 2-storey shop house Building that cost RM330,000.00. Subsequently, the Committee forms a Sub-Committee for the Building Fund and managed to raise about two hundred over thousand from the members, and the remaining amount of one hundred and thirty thousand was loaned from a Finance Company.
From then on, various activities were carried out.
